Sometimes you don’t realize you need something until it enters your life.

That’s kind of how it is with me and yoga. I am enjoying it but it is taking some getting used to. I am a busy person in every sense of the word. My mind goes at a million miles a minute and I often try to squeeze two days into one. Maybe that’s why I am enjoying the peace and tranquility of Penny Gelber’s yoga classes this month. They take me away from my busy life and give me time to just be. Time to focus on breathing, time to still my mind, and time to relax. I especially liked the little eye bags scented with lavendar she provided at the end of her class. So relaxing.

Anyone who practices yoga knows that yoga is more than a few simple stretches. Yoga is challenging and those who are committed enjoy many benefits. I am already benefitting from stretching and slowing down for a change. I felt rested at the end of yesterday’s session even though it was the end of the day.

I realize that yoga can’t replace an aerobic workout so I’ve been visiting the gym at the complex at 6 am and taking Mike’s early morning boot camp while remaining faithful to my Wednesday workout with Roche. Nothing beats a good sweat. My duck toller Hunter and I continue to run on weekends and walk during the week but neither of us have dropped very much weight. He’s a little worried about his annual vet appointment later this week. Will the vet scold us for Hunter’s fat pads? I am thinking yes…
