I read with interest the Robot Town article. Although I have no objection in principle to self-checkout lines, I will not use them until I can walk up to one with a loaded cart, unload the cart on to a conveyor belt, pay for the items by cash or by card, then pick up the properly bagged items from the end of the line. Until this can be done, self-checkout is merely a way for stores to use technology to have untrained, incompetent customers do the work for free that should be done by properly trained, competent, paid staff.
